Competitors and spectators security above all

The Azores Airlines Rallye Race Direction met this Monday, at a hotel in the city of Ponta Delgada on the preparation of another edition of the Azorean and Portuguese round of the FIA European Rally Championship.

The heads of the various departments gathered in order to discuss the security plan of the various special stages through where the rally will pass, analyzing and expediting the emergency rescue routes. In this meeting, which precedes a general one to be held this Friday, the 13th, with all the organizational staff, was also discussed and analyzed several examples of accidents that have occurred at national and international level.

A pressing and permanent concern is the spectator’s safety. The issue was further analyzed and worked as well as the message to be delivered to the audience at those areas, as in content as in form.

In analysis was also the role and mission of the road commissioners, how do they should act in case of accident and what communications methods should be used in order to fasten communication among them, as well as other matters related to logistics and assemblies.

For António Andrade, Clerk of the Course, this meeting “proves to be of most importance because our team has been working hard since the last event we organize, the Lotus Rallye, which happened last year just one month after then SATA Rallye Azores, as it happens this year, and now we must meet and discuss what each department has and is doing to maintain the Azores Airlines Rallye as a success, as well as a good example of how to organize and conduct this kind of events”.

The Azores Airlines Rallye takes place between 2 and 4 June, 2016, at São Miguel Island, Azores, Portugal and counts towards to the FIA European Rally Championship, the FIA ERC, the Portuguese Rally Championship and the Azorean Rally Championship.
