One of the most curious participations in the 56th Azores Rallye will be the duo Reiner Kuhn/Tim Rauber with a Renault Clio Rally5. Khun is a reputed German journalist, one of the most prestigious in the automobile world, with a career of almost three decades of service to motor sports. The German, whenever he can, likes to be behind the wheel and for a long time had the desire to line up in the event organised by the Grupo Desportivo e Comercial. To this end, he even gathered information about the rally from various drivers and in 2021 he heard important advice from Andreas Mikkelsen, winner of the rally and, subsequently, European champion last year.
For this entry, Khun says that, “to be honest, this is a dream come true for me. After many years of being able to follow the rally as a journalist on site, I will now experience these spectacular stages behind the wheel of a Renault Clio Rally5. Although I’d like to show that I can drive a little bit and can follow my directly competition in the Clio Trophy, for a fairly inexperienced amateur like me it’s all about not making a stupid mistake, stay out of bigger trouble and finishing. If I can do that, I can promise that no matter how bad the weather conditions will be, on the second run of the iconic stage “Sete Cidades“ on Sunday afternoon I will pass the time control with a huge smile .
