Description


This is one of the nicest special stages with its start happening in upper Vila Franca do Campo. Competitors run throughout the first part of the special test on agricultural roads. After a brief incursion into asphalt, they return to gravel roads and enter a private forest that offers one of the most beautiful and natural surroundings, where most often the competitors drive lined by fields of flowers and trees. The final part of this special stage also offers unique moments with the passage on the banks of the Lagoa de São Brás (São Brás Lake).

SZ 3.5 – Monte Escuro (South) (N37 46, 638   W25 25,537) Hard turn and gravel/tarmac floor change

  • Drive East when on Avenida Infante D. Henrique, at Ponta Delgada;
  • At the roundabout drive towards “Ribeira Grande/Lagoa”, reset your car’s trip meter;
  • Follow on main road until km 21,18;
  • At the roundabout keep left and leave on second exit towards “Povoação/Furnas”;
  • At 22,32 km, again on a roundabout, leave on second exit towards “Furnas”;
  • At 23,41 km, keep left and drive forward;
  • At 23,86 km, keep on the main road, always on the right lane;
  • At 25,49 km, leave to left lane towards “Ribeira Grande/Lomba Maia/Achada das Furnas” and drive through the main road;
  • At 29,53 km, turn left towards “Caldeira/Lombadas/Monte Escuro”;
  • You’ll find the spectators zone (SZ) 3,20 km later;

SZ 3.6  A/B Forest  Armando Henrique – M Escuro (North)   (N37 46, 090   W25 25,654)

SZ 3.6.A       TARMAC / GRAVEL – COMING INTO THE FOREST AND HARD RIGHT INSIDE

SZ 3.6.B      Gravel descent and easy right corner to tarmac road

  • When driving at Avenida Infante D. Henrique, at Ponta Delgada, drive East;
  • On the roundabout, take exit towards “Ribeira Grande/Lagoa”;
  • Right after passing “Lagoa” exit, take exit towards “Povoação (Via Norte)/Nordeste/Ribeira Grande”;
  • Keep on fast lane. At the roundabout located at the end of the fast lane,, drive towards “Furnas/Nordeste”. Reset your car’s trip meter;
  • Drive forward towards “Nordeste”;
  • At km 11,65, (after passing 0,9km “Porto Formoso” , after water farmers filling, in the tubes road protection, exit to the right, in the large hall with tree in the center.
  • Keep in the tarmac road, that climb to the mountain.
  • At km 15,95, at the end of road, turn left, and then have two options :

A  to the right  | B  to the left and descending 3,6 km.

SZ 3.7 – Lagoa de São Brás (N37 47, 762   W25 24,126) TARMAC / GRAVEL  – AFTER PASSAGE BANKS OF S. BRÁS LAGOON

  • When driving at Avenida Infante D. Henrique, at Ponta Delgada, drive East;
  • On the roundabout, take exit towards “Ribeira Grande/Lagoa”;
  • Right after passing “Lagoa” exit, take exit towards “Povoação (Via Norte)/Nordeste/Ribeira Grande”;
  • Keep on fast lane. At the roundabout located at the end of the fast lane,, drive towards “Furnas/Nordeste”. Reset your car’s trip meter;
  • Drive forward towards “Nordeste”;
  • At km 13,96, (after passing 3,1 km “Porto Formoso” plate), exit to “Maia / S. Brás / Lagoa de S. Brás” . At roundabout exit to “Lagoa de S. Brás”, and immediately again same direction.
  • Keep in the tarmac road climbing to the mountain. Will arrive at SZ.
